What Happened?

One of life’s biggest questions is, “Why?” Why did this happen? Why didn’t God do what I expected? Why did things turn out this way? In this message, Pastor DaVon explores what God’s Word teaches us about navigating unanswered questions, disappointment, and uncertainty, while learning to trust God even when we don’t have every answer.

Notes

John 10:10 AMPC

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

  • There is a thief whose only function is to steal, kill, and destroy

  • The Old Testament doesn’t paint us a clear picture of the devil so everyone tended to blame God for everything.

Proverbs 19:3

  • MSG: People ruin their lives by their own stupidity, so why does God always get blamed?

  • NLT: People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.

Decisions

  • Much of our stupidity and foolishness lies in our decision-making.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14‬:‭12‬

There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Denial

  • Difficulty accepting a reality

  • They fight to maintain the story they tell themselves.

  • They reject evidence, blame others, and become defensive.

  • Romans 4:17

God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did

  • Most people call things that are as though they do not exist versus calling things that do not exist as though they do exist.

Pride

  • Everyone deals with pride

  • Pride comes before a fall

  • When you are in pride, you are in deception

  • Deception believes a lie

  • Pride says I don't need help

  • Just me and God

Fear

  • Job 3:25

For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me.

  • Psalm 112:7 NLT

They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.

Lazy

  • Lazy people want (without the work) what hard-working people have.

Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT

The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.
