Running On Empty

Have you ever felt tired in a way that sleep just can’t fix? That’s emotional fatigue—it drains you on the inside, makes even small things feel overwhelming, and steals your joy. In this message, Pastor DaVon shows how God can renew your strength, refresh your soul, and help you keep moving forward.

2 Thessalonians 3:13

But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.

Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

  • Do you ever get tired of doing good?

  • Stacy saw a picture of me and mentioned that I looked extremely tired. When I looked at it myself, I felt the same way.

  • But I don’t think it’s physical tiredness; it feels more like emotional fatigue.

  • And emotional fatigue will affect your physical appearance

  • I think when we say we are tired, we only think physically

  • This is hidden, not communicated a lot

  • We feel weary, tired, exhausted, fatigued, plateaued, or running on empty

  • Your inner strength is worn down

  • You wake up feeling drained, even if you slept well.

  • Every day tasks feel pointless

  • Small things set you off

  • Your mind feels foggy, and you are easily distracted

  • Instead of feeling sad or angry, you just feel nothing.

  • You no longer want to talk, socialize, or engage.

  • You feel stuck, like you have no momentum.

  • Things that once excited you don’t bring the same lift.

Matthew 11:28-30

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

  • Notice, this is an invitation for you to come to Jesus.

  • Jesus didn’t say He would come to you. He says you must choose to go to Him.

  • Jesus never promised that He would take difficult assignments away from you. However, if you come to Him, He will give you the rest you need to be refreshed for the continuation of your journey

Nehemiah 8:10

…the joy of the Lord is your strength

  • Joy is like spiritual fuel.

  • When emotional fatigue drains you, joy restores strength.

  • Joy lifts the weight off your soul

  • Emotional fatigue often comes from focusing on problems too long, but Joy shifts perspective on God’s goodness, faithfulness, and what’s still possible

  • Joy is contagious

  • You can’t always control how you feel, but you can choose where you place your focus.

  • Joy doesn’t erase emotional fatigue instantly, but it rebuilds you from the inside out so that you can rise above it.

  • Stir up the fruit of joy, and then it becomes your strength.

James 1:2-4

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

  • James said count it all joy. I read that as don’t forget about joy or don’t disregard joy.
