Notes

God reveals different aspects of Himself through the many names He uses, each one with its unique meaning and power, offering us a deeper glimpse into His limitless nature.

3 Reasons for this series:

  1. To reveal His nature and character.

  2. To deepen our relationship with Him.

  3. To guide our prayer life and worship experience.

Each name of God is like a perfect puzzle piece fitting exactly where we’re broken, filling what’s missing, and completing the picture of who we were created to be.

Matthew 9:35-38

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

  • Are you feeling weary, scattered, neglected, or helpless?

  • Jesus identified a problem and brought a solution.

  • The solution is a shepherd

Jehovah Rohi means “The Lord is my Shepherd.”

  • Not the Lord is your shepherd, but the Lord is MY shepherd

  • Lover of the flock!

  • Your Shepherd meets your spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.

  • Reveals His character as a personal, caring, and guiding shepherd who watches over His people with love, protection, and provision.

John 10:11,14,16,27

  • Shepherd - someone who leads, feeds, and protects a flock

  • The shepherd knows each sheep by name, showing there’s a real, genuine bond.

  • When others overlook you, Jehovah Rohi sees you, knows you, and calls you by name.

  • Although a shepherd has not been a sheep, it’s different with Jesus. Jesus came to Earth and lived as a sheep.

  • Who could be a better Shepherd than one who has been a sheep?

  • He knows how you feel, and He knows exactly how to lead you

Psalm 23:1-6

  • The Lord is - Promise that He is anything and everything I need

  • My Shepherd - Promise to lead, feed, and protect

  • I shall not want - Promise of provision (lacking nothing)

  • Lie down in green pastures - Promise of rest (Sheep won’t rest unless they feel safe)

  • He leads me - Promise of Leadership

  • Still waters - Promise of peace and refreshment

  • Restores - Promise of Renewal; Promise of Strength

  • Even though I walk - Promise of continuation

  • Shadow - Shadows can’t hurt you

  • Valley - Seasons of difficulty - Promise of transition between two mountains. Valleys are not the destination but a pathway to something greater.

  • I will fear no evil - Promise of love

  • You are with me - Promise of nearness to God

  • You rod - Promise of His protection

  • Your staff - Promise of His power

  • Comfort - Promise of reassurance

  • You prepare - Promise to get you ready

  • A table - Promise of abundance (Jehovah Rohi blesses you while your enemies watch.)

  • You anoint - Promise of notoriety

  • Goodness - Promise of generosity

  • Mercy - Promise of mercy

  • Follow - Promise to cover your rear end.

  • All the days of your life - Promise of daily blessings

Psalm 23:1-6 TPT

Yahweh is my best friend and my shepherd. I always have more than enough.

He offers a resting place for me in his luxurious love. His tracks take me to an oasis of peace near the quiet brook of bliss.

That’s where he restores and revives my life. He opens before me the right path and leads me along in his footsteps of righteousness so that I can bring honor to his name.

Even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you already have! Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.

You become my delicious feast even when my enemies dare to fight. You anoint me with the fragrance of your Holy Spirit; you give me all I can drink of you until my cup overflows.

So why would I fear the future? Only goodness and tender love pursue me all the days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through, I’ll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you!
