Genesis 17:1-2 NLT

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life. 2 I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.”

  • God reveals Himself to Abraham as the Almighty God who can fulfill His promises.

  • Covenant – a binding agreement between two parties that carries a perpetual promise.

  • El Shaddai is your Covenant Partner, and He will look after you better than anyone else ever could.

  • El – God and Power

  • Shaddai – All mighty, All sufficient One, The Many Breasted One, God of the Mountain, Overpowerer.

All Mighty

  • Showing superior power or strength, of great size; huge, great in amount; unconquerable

  • He’s more than capable of being all that His people need.

  • There is nothing too hard for El Shaddai.

All Sufficient One

  • El Shaddai is the God who is more than enough to meet your needs for each situation

  • More than willing and capable of superseding all natural laws and turning them into supernatural miracles.

The Many Breasted One

  • Genesis 49:25

  • Refers to God completely nourishing, satisfying, and supplying His people with all their needs, as a mother would her child.

The God of the Mountain.

  • In Scripture, mountains were often where people encountered God

  • Mt Sinai, Mt Carmel, and Mt of Transfiguration reveal that the mountain is where God speaks, reveals, and empowers.

  • Mountains are symbols of God’s strength and unchanging nature

  • God of the Mountain lifts us when we are low

Overpowerer

  • El Shaddai is The Overpowerer.

  • He will do what He purposes to do by overpowering all opposition.

  • El Shaddai is the God who is strength, power, and provision

  • El Shaddai is answerable to no one!

Genesis 28:3

May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you, That you may be an assembly of peoples

  • The word “Almighty” always relates to blessings and multiplication.

  • El Shaddai will get to you anything, from anyone, anywhere, at any time

  • He takes your inadequate resources and, in His sufficiency, uses them for His great and powerful purposes.

  • El Shaddai is the God who freely gives blessings

Genesis 35:11

Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply

  • El Shaddai performs great and awesome wonders and miracles!

  • El Shaddai has unlimited power.

  • El Shaddai can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20)

  • We must know God as El Shaddai because there is no other like Him.

  • He’s more than capable of being all that His people need.

  • You don’t have to look to anyone else to meet your needs.

  • You don’t have to try to meet your own needs.

  • It doesn’t matter how tough your situation is, El Shaddai will bring you through.

  • You can put all of your trust in El Shaddai.

John 10:10 AMPC

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

Exodus 3:7-8

And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. 8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

  • We can live in the "land of not enough," "just enough," or "more than enough."

  • The Hebrews, when they were in Egypt, were living in the "land of not enough." They were stuck in the "land of not enough."

  • When you are a slave to something, you are living in the "land of not enough."

  • God wanted to move the Hebrews out of the "land of not enough." He wanted to move them into the land of more than enough (Exodus 3:8)

  • God wanted them to live in the "land of more than enough" – plenty, abundance, and overflow.

  • As they started to go to the "land of more than enough," they got stuck in the "land of just enough."

  • Some Christians have moved out of poverty and settled into the "land of just enough." Because they have their needs met, they think they're living in abundance! They think they are prosperous! But they aren't. They have "just enough."

  • When they were in the wilderness, they only had enough food for one day. They did not have enough for tomorrow or the next day. They couldn't store it up, because it would rot (Exodus 16). They had just enough. That's the area of just having your needs met.

  • How much time do you spend in a day thinking about, working toward, and figuring out how you are going to get your bills paid?

  • God wants to move you from the land of being in need to the place where you give no thought to your needs.

  • As long as the devil can keep you in the land of just enough, then you will not consider the abundance of God because you are going to be thinking about the bills that are due.

  • Learn how to press past the "land of just enough" into the place where God wants you to be - the "land of more than enough."

  • Never seek just to get by but always press in for all God has for you.
